Anxiety

Anxiety can be a common response to feeling stressed, or it can be triggered by specific situations or events. Catastrophic thinking regularly occurs with anxiety, leaving one feeling like something awful may happen or expecting the worse case scenario. 

Stress and anxiety can produce both physical and psychological symptoms.  People experience stress and anxiety differently. 

Some common physical symptoms include:

  • Stomach ache

  • muscle tension

  • headache

  • rapid breathing

  • fast heartbeat

  • sweating

  • shaking

  • dizziness

  • change in appetite

  • trouble sleeping

  • fatigue

 

Anxiety can be accompanied by a somatic panic reaction. A panic attack may occur without warning however is often associated with an accumulation of stress. 

Some psychological and emotional symptom may include:

  • feelings of impending doom

  • panic or nervousness, especially in social settings

  • difficulty concentrating

  • irrational anger

  • restlessness

 

If left untreated, anxiety can negatively interfere with your day to day living and adversely impact on interpersonal relationships, career and ability to enjoy life.
